Gautham Nagesh

Gautham Nagesh is a screenwriter and journalist based in Los Angeles. He currently writes for the best-selling NBA2K video game series — with credits on 2K22, 2K23, 2K25, 2K26, and 2K27 — and was the Writer’s Assistant on the NBC sitcom American Auto, where he co-wrote the penultimate episode. He has written several sitcom pilots and is developing a one-hour dramedy about four young Capitol Hill staffers at the tail end of the Obama administration. He was a finalist for the NBCUniversal Launch program.

Previously a staff correspondent in The Wall Street Journal’s Washington, D.C. bureau, Gautham covered technology policy during the Obama administration, winning a New York Press Club award and a SABEW Best in Business award for his reporting. He also covered the auto industry and boxing from the Detroit bureau, and was a frequent guest on NPR, MSNBC, C-SPAN, and other outlets to discuss sports, technology, and politics.

His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Passion of Weiss, CQ Roll Call, Hour Detroit Magazine and many other publications. He founded Stiff Jab, a boxing publication that drew a wide national following and was cited in The Atlantic and on NPR, among many other outlets, and is a veteran of several media startups.

A longtime angel investor, Gautham has been funding early-stage companies since his mid-twenties and is always open to conversations with experienced operators. He is an associate member of both the Writers Guild of America West and the Boxing Writers Association of America. Gautham holds a B.A. in American Studies from Cornell University and once lost handily on Jeopardy!
